What is SEO?

SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization. It means making your site appear closer to the top of organic (free) web search results so that more potential customers find your site through Google and other search engines.

Think about it. When you search for something on Google, are you more likely to click the links at the top of the page, or further down? Or worse yet, on the second or third page?

Simple enough, but here's the tricky part: Google's algorithm looks at hundreds of factors to determine the position of every page that you see in the results of a Google search, so SEO can be confusing and bewildering at first glance. So here let's just get our feet wet with a few basic facts about SEO. To dive in deep and learn more, see the links at the bottom of this page.

SEO is largely invisible

After you install SEO Optimizer and let it do its job of improving your site's SEO, you'll notice that your site still looks the same. That's because a lot of SEO does not appear anywhere on your site in a way that you can see it. Instead, SEO is largely based on code in the background of your site. Google and other search engines "crawl" the web, and these web crawlers look at the invisible SEO code as well as the visible information on your pages in order to give your pages a certain rank in web searches. So the better your SEO code is, the more likely you are to be highly ranked (and appear closer to the top) in web searches.

Meta tags are the most basic SEO code. See our help article What are meta tags?

If you want to verify that SEO Optimizer is correctly applying code to your pages, you can't do that just by looking at your site. See our help article How do I check on image alt tags and other metadata on my site?

There are two types of SEO

There is on-page SEO and off-page SEO.

On-page SEO involves checking all of the boxes in SEO best practices. This is where SEO Optimizer comes in. We take care of all of your on-page SEO needs in just a few clicks.

Off-page SEO is the second half of the equation. This involves building backlinks: making sure other sites link to pages in your Shopify store. SEO Optimizer does not handle this type of SEO. Off-page SEO is something that only humans can do! See the recommended resources at the bottom of this page.

What SEO Optimizer will do

We first created this app out of a frustration we had with an SEO consultant a couple of years ago..

After parting ways with a substantial fee, we found that the consultant was simply working off a very long checklist. After diving deeper into this ourselves, we discovered that all best practices can be replicated across any Shopify store.

Just like a mechanic checking off a list of items, we realized we could replicate an extensive list of best practices into any Shopify store. Six months of full-time development (and lots of testing) later, we had our robust app ready to implement SEO best practices into any Shopify store.

SEO Optimizer implements as many SEO best practices as possible, including:

  • Title tag keyword optimization
  • Meta description keyword optimization
  • Image alt text keyword optimization
  • Broken links automatically fixed and redirected
  • Image compression for faster page loading
  • URL optimization
  • Sitemap generation
  • Google Rich Results through a JSON-LD schema for your entire store
  • HTML structure analysis
  • Keyword density checks
  • and much more…

Does all of this sound like an unknown language??

That's no problem… We've got you covered.

All you need to know is—if it's a best practice, we've got it already done for you.

What used to take countless hours or thousands of dollars now take a few minutes with SEO Optimizer.
